Heroes for Hope Celebration

Yesterday, we hosted our annual Heroes for Hope luncheon at the Cathedral of our Lady of Angels and celebrated people who share their time, talent and treasure.  We honored Brad Bell, Executive Producer and head writer of the day-time award winning Soap Opera “The Bold And the Beautiful”, as well as Sean Stewart, Chantel Dressen, and Farmer John.

Through the initiative of Brad Bell, daytime drama television actually came to skid row to witness firsthand what we see every day.  People experiencing homelessness were hired to work alongside the show’s cast and real life stories were used in the program’s storyline to share both the need and the amazing life transformation taking place on Skid Row with the world.

In addition to this unprecedented exposure, Brad Bell and CBS made it financially possible for URM to serve a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to over 4,000 men, women and children on Skid Row and has provided employment opportunities for several of our graduates by extending their roles in the series.  Emmy award winning actress Susan Flannery who plays “Stephanie Forrester” on The Bold & the Beautiful gave a very special address to the audience further acknowledging Brad’s contributions to the Mission and encouraging everyone to get involved in the fight to end homelessness.

Sean Stewart & Chantel Dreesen were honored for the time they spend each week with our URM kids playing soccer.  We are thankful for their faithful commitment to invest in our children and provide some fun in the lives of young people that have been devastated by homelessness.

Farmer John was honored  for their commitment of donating food to the Mission.  Currently, they donated to URM 1,000 pounds of meat for each Andre Either homerun.

Guests were provided a copy of a newly published book called “Incredible Stories of Skid Row” by Christopher Kai.

We are grateful to these generous sponsors who made this luncheon possible:
