RescueLine Update for August

Every summer, whenever the temperatures reach 85 degrees and higher, I venture out on to the streets of Skid Row to pass out bottles of cold water to hundreds of thirsty souls. And every time, the desperation, misery, and hopelessness I encounter there break my heart. But it’s important to me to go out there. Because Jesus said, whenever I give a thirsty man or woman a bottle of cold water in His name, I give to Him.

I recently heard someone say that when we stand before God in heaven, He won’t ask us about our doctrines. He’ll simply ask, “When I was hungry, did you give me something to eat: When I was thirsty, did you give me something to drink?”

I pray I pass the test. I pray we all do.

Blessings,

Like Water to a Thirsty Man

Living on Skid Row in the dead heat of summer is not only miserable—it can be life-threatening. Jesus said that whenever people give a cup of cold water to someone in His name, they give it to Him.

As our economy continues to suffer, more and more people are landing on Skid Row this summer. Before long, these precious, frightened, and fragile people struggle with thirst and begin to lose hope.

“Living on Skid Row in the summer time is hard. A lot of times, you can’t get no cold water. So when people from Union Rescue Mission start passing out water, everybody runs to them. It means a lot. It’s a real blessing.”.

~William, was living on Skid Row for 2 years.
